Equipment for Expansion at Cedar Breaks

At more than 10,000ft of elevation, Cedar Breaks National Monument’s environment presents unique challenges that extend well into the start of the visitor season. Long after surrounding communities transition to spring, deep snow continues to limit access to roads, parking lots, and facilities. These delays affect not only visitor experience but also the preservation of park infrastructure, as snow and freeze-thaw cycles cause damage that worsens with time. The Equipment for Expansion at Cedar Breaks project aims to help address that need.

Equipment for Expansion at Cedar Breaks project will support the purchase of a skid steer with a blower attachment that will allow maintenance staff to clear snow more efficiently, opening visitor areas earlier and reducing strain on roads and structures. This equipment will also serve the park year-round by supporting trail work, material transport, and landscaping that improve safety, accessibility, and aesthetics throughout the summer season.

“This equipment represents an investment that will serve the park for many years with proper care. Routine maintenance, such as oil changes, lubrication, and replacement of wear parts, is already part of standard park operations. While not the fanciest project, this new piece of equipment will allow our team to better meet the visitor needs year-round.” - Ranger Kyle Dunn.

By upgrading its small maintenance operation, Cedar Breaks National Monument will enhance the care and preservation of public facilities, ensuring visitors can safely experience the Monument’s landscapes earlier in the season. Donor support for this project provides a lasting investment in both operational efficiency and the protection of park resources, directly contributing to an exemplary visitor experience and long-term stewardship of this unique Monument.
