In the Pine Valley Mountains, responsible recreation is more than a personal choice—it’s a community commitment to protecting the breathtaking landscapes of Dixie National Forest. To support this, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Zion Forever Project will install 24 new interpretive signs across key trailheads and recreation areas in the region. These signs will provide visitors with vital information about trail systems, Leave No Trace principles, and responsible recreation practices, empowering them to enjoy and protect this cherished landscape.
“The last updates to our signage were in 2011,” said Braden Yardley, USFS Project Lead. “This initiative gives us the opportunity to modernize not only the content but also the message, ensuring that visitors are equipped to engage with the land responsibly for years to come. It’s almost like having a ranger on-site, even when we can’t be there in person.”
This project builds upon the recent reopening of the Pine Valley Heritage Center, spearheaded by Zion Forever. Serving as a hub for forest information and education, the center connects visitors to the history and culture of Pine Valley. It also provides products that allow visitors to enhance their trips and share memories with friends and family. The addition of these interpretive signs will further amplify this investment, creating a cohesive system of resources that help visitors navigate the forest.
Tiffany Stouffer, Director of Development for the Zion Forever Project, emphasized the broader impact of this collaboration. “Our support extends beyond the parks into many public lands across the desert southwest,” she said. “This partnership with the USFS demonstrates how shared goals can create lasting impact, not just for the forests, everyone who visits them.
By contributing to this project, donors directly impact the preservation and enjoyment of Dixie National Forest for generations to come. Every dollar helps create touchpoints that inspire responsibility and protect the pristine beauty of Pine Valley. Together, we can ensure that this remarkable landscape continues to thrive as a haven for all who love and respect it.
