Slickrock Ecology
May 7, 2010
Above the Virgin River Canyon lies a world of tough plants and animals that find pockets of soil or water, secret places where there is an island of good living surrounded by seemingly barren slickrock. Explore some of the ways to make a living in tough times and territory, the making of natural bonsai trees and lichen gardens, the springs, transitory pools, seemingly barren rock and permanent shade that make up the slickrock community. Good hiking shoes are essential, but ropes, etc. are not. A hand lens may be helpful.
