The National Park Service maintains over 360 areas that have certain common characteristics. Each represents something very special, whether it is socially important such as the birth place of Martin Luther King, a historical site such as Gettysburg or the scenic and natural wonders of Yellowstone.

While the parks share common problems such as skyrocketing visitation and stagnant budgets, each has unique problems such as the goat overpopulation at Olympic.

Bill Stoner, like all rangers, has viewed our parks' splendor and environmental problems from the inside. With duties ranging from law enforcement on horseback in isolated desert canyons to just plain, hard and dirty maintenance work, he has enjoyed the opportunity of working in the sculptured red beauty of Bryce Canyon, the majestic peaks of Glacier National Park and the lush vegetation of the Florida Everglades. Whether on boat patrol of Lake Powell's seemingly endless coastline, fighting wildfires in Yellowstone or near the ancient petroglyphs of Dinosaur National Monument, the views are always extraordinary. Like most people who have seen these special places, he wanted to share their beauty and importance with others.

Bill combined reality with an overactive imagination to create the playing cards that share ecological concerns and eventful situations that occur within the parks. If you like the photographs, many of them taken by other park rangers, Bill challenges you to go to the parks and identify them for yourself.

PARKOLOGY is an educational game designed to entertain the players. As you advance around the board you'll need to decide whether or not to build campsites at the Parks you land on. You'll discover ways to outsmart the other players as you determine when and where to build. But...watch out, the roll of the dice can make a big difference - you may end up at Alcatraz! (Lost & Found is much more fun!) Good Luck!

We are sure that even if you don't win, you will enjoy PARKOLOGY and become acquainted with our national parks. Players also learn interesting facts about each park by reading the 28 Concession Lease Cards, 20 Ecology Cards and 20 Trailhead Cards.

So, gather your friends and family together for some "old-fashioned" game board fun!

Enjoy the Adventure - Watch out for the unexpected, and whatever you do, Don't Get Lost!
