by Dr. Stanley L. Welsh
Approximately 900 different kinds of plants are known within Zion National Park. This book covers 120 of the common ones and hints at many more. Some of the common species do not have showy flowers. But they are included here because they are so common. Plant communities in Zion range from low elevation warm desert shrub up to ponderosa pine and fir.
Dr. Welsh is the director of the Monte L. Bean museum at Brigham Young University where he teaches botany and plant classification. He has been a good friend of the national parks in Utah for many years.
