POETRY IN THE PARK

This exciting program, now in its fifth year, is made possible by a partnership between Utah State Poetry Society, Zion Natural History Association, and Zion Canyon Field Institute. It is partially funded by grants from the Utah State Division of Arts and Museums, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Mark your calendar for Friday, March 21, 2014 for the fifth annual POETRY in THE PARK at Zion National Park. This year’s workshop features John Rezmerski or Rez as he prefers to be called. He’s an English professor and Minnesota Past POET LAUREATE with an exciting workshop entitled: When Good Poems Go Bad––Diagnosis and Repair. Bring some of your poems to doctor. Schedule below:
FRIDAY-March 21, 2014
8:45-9:00 am Finalize Registration, Mix and Mingle
9:00-10:30 Workshop I––Learning to Spot Weaknesses in Poems
10:45-noon Optional Nature Walk with Naturalist Michael Plyler as our guide. (We’ll carpool to the Grotto's handicap accessible path to view the wonders of this beautiful area along the Virgin River. For those not wishing to take the Nature Walk, they can use this time to write poetry and remain in the Nature Center.)
Noon-1 pm Lunch-Bring a sack lunch, visiting and individual writing time.
1:00-2:30 Workshop II––Assembling a Poetry Repair Kit
2:45-4 pm Poetry Circle: Sharing poems, new or old with each other.
Make plans to join us. Registration is limited to 34 poets and available after Jan 2014. Fees are $60 for this workshop which includes class materials, a nature walk in Zion Park, free park pass, and snacks. Bring your own picnic lunch. Carpools available from nearby St. George, Utah.
